Abstract

English has been the most spoken language around the world (Mahu, 2012). The English language plays a crucial role to weave the world into a single thread (Fandrych, 2009). Speaking is the most important skill among all the four language skills to communicate well in this global world (Rao, 2019). In this research, the researcher wants to know a program that can improve students' speaking skills in English. the program is called Giving Vocabularies at Assalam Islamic Boarding School Bangilan Tuban. This research is a descriptive qualitative study that describes the strategy for implementing GV program. To collect the data for this research, the researcher used triangulation. Triangulation is a method used to increase the credibility and validity of research findings (Noble & Heale, 2019). Data were obtained by observing, direct interviews with parties related to the program such as teachers and students as well as research documentation. The program is implemented to improve student’s speaking skills in English. In this research, the researcher wants to get information regarding the obstacles and challenges of teachers in implementing the GV program at the Assalam Islamic boarding school. In addition, researchers also want to know the efforts made by teachers in overcoming problems or obstacles and in facing challenges that exist in the implementation of GV program activities. Schools that want their students to be proficient in English should not only rely on English teaching materials in the classroom. Schools should have the initiative to create programs that can help students improve their ability in English. Students who are not proficient in English are sometimes students who want to be proficient in it, but they lack support in improving their English. This thesis can be a reference for other schools that need and want to improve students' English skills. This thesis can be an additional reference for further research.
