Abstract
S 45 C steel is a carbon steel that is included in carbon steel which has a carbon content of ±45%. This steel is a plucker in the industrial world, especially in the manufacture of engine components. In the machining process, the measure of product quality is visually seen from the roughness or smoothness of the surface produced. One of the factors that affect the roughness of the surface is the depth of the shearing, the rotation speed of the RPM spindle, and the coolant in the milling process. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of variations in shearing, spindle rotation and coolant in the shearing process, namely used oil and used oil in the milling process on the surface roughness of S 45 C Steel. The test specimen is in the form of S 45 C steel which is carried out in a milling process with a variety of 1 mm and 3 mm feeders with a variation in spindle speed of 1250 rpm, 1800 rpm, and 2000 rpm in this milling process, a cutting coolant, namely used oil and used oil. The results of the surface roughness test conducted show that the higher the spindle rotation speed, the smaller or smoother the surface roughness value will be and the roughness of this surface is also affected by the cooling in the milling process. In the cooling of used oil and used oil that affects the smoothness with a more relaxed value, namely by cooling used oil. Then, for the results of the lowest or smoothest surface roughness in used oil coolers and used oil with 1 mm and 3 mm shearing in the spindle hardness of 1250 rpm, 1800 rpm and 2000 rpm, namely in the pending used oil with a roughness value of 0.368 μm
