Abstract

The objective of this research was find the significant effect of using Nice Mind Map compare to conventional method on students’ writing recount text and to find out whether using Nice Mind Map is more effective than conventional method in students’ writing recount text of the eighth grade students’ of SMPN 5 Bojonegoro. This research method employed quasi-experimental design. The researcher chose the method because she wanted to know the effectiveness of using Nice Mind Map toward students’ writing recount text. To answer the problem statement, which was related to the objective of the research, the researcher applied quantitative method, which had intact group pre-test and post-test design were firstly tabulated and the analyzed in SPSS 25 for windows. The sample of this research was VIII C consisted of 32 students which was selected by using cluster random sampling. The research data were collected by using writing test. To find out the students’ score result were from the post-test score of independent t-test. Mean post-test score of experimental group was 75.90 and mean post-test score of control group was 56.56. The magnitude of the difference in the mean was 19.34. The value post-test independent t-test of significance value (sig 2-tailed) is lower than 0.05 or 0.000 < 0.05. Regarding to this finding, it discovers that the H0 or null hypothesis was rejected, but H1 or alternative hypothesis is accepted. A significant difference appeared between the means scores of experimental and control groups. In other words, using Nice Mind Map more effective toward the students writing recount text. From effect size statistical by eta squared, the researcher found that the value of eta squared was (0.47). The obtained value of eta squared showed very large effect size. Based on the findings and discussion of the research, there is significant effect between the students’ writing recount text using Nice Mind Map and the students’ writing recount text with conventional method at SMPN 5 Bojonegoro.
