Abstract

Speaking is a language skill that develops in a child's life. To improve speaking skills, students can use mind mapping techniques in the learning process, especially for Mts As Syafiiyah students, this study applies mind mapping techniques in class VII A. This study aims to improve students' English speaking skills through mind mapping as a learning resource. This type of research is classroom action research with a design from John Elliot which has four stages in each cycle, namely: Planning, Implementation, Observation, and Reflection. The research was carried out in two cycles, each cycle of two meetings, the researcher acted as an observer and the teacher as a teacher or called CAR participants. The research subjects where the students of class VII A of Mts Salafiyah As Syafiiyah Simorejo amounted to 20 students consisting of 8 girls and 12 boys. Data collection was obtained based on the results of observations, tests and documentation. The data analysis used is descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative. Based on the results of this study, the scores on the pre-test were 5 (25%) students scored above the KKM while 15 students (75%). After doing the first cycle, the student's score increased by 35% with the score obtained by students as much as 12 (60%) and students who had not achieved the average score (40%). In the second cycle the student's score increased by 30% with 18 (90%) students who had reached the KKM score while 2 students (10%) still had not managed to get a score above the KKM. The use of the mind mapping method succeeded in improving the speaking skills of class VII A students of Mts Salafiyah As Syafiiyah. Because the value of students has increased significantly and the activeness of students in following lessons from before.
