Abstract
Welding techniques are the main choice in the construction sector in Bojonegoro district, especially technology in the field of metal processing. One of the TIG welding techniques is applied to the welding process of bicycle frames made from 6061 aluminum material. The aim of this research is to analyze the parameters for using variations in welding current strength and grooves in the TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding process. determine the magnitude of the welding current variation parameters and the ideal welding path to produce good welding results and welding results that are free from welding defects. This research is experimental research on a laboratory scale. The test specimen was a 6061 aluminum plate with dimensions of 100 mm x 50 mm x 5 mm which was welded with variations in the welding current strength parameters of 60 amperes, 80 amperes, 100 amperes and straight, zig-zag, spiral welding groove types. The results of the welding defect test using the dye penetrant test on the weld metal and root parts showed that the welding defect that appeared was the type of gas pore that appeared in the welding specimen using TIG welding parameters with a current strength of 60 ampheres and the use of spiral welding grooves and straight grooves. In specimens with variations in TIG welding parameters with a current strength of 60 ampheres and the use of spiral welding grooves and straight grooves based on accepted criteria, welding defects are considered rejected. Welding defects in the form of gas pores are caused by the strong welding current used and material contamination during the welding process. Data on the toughness test results (impact charpy) of 6061 aluminum TIG welding with variations in current strength parameters of 60 ampheres, 80 ampheres and 100 ampheres respectively and spiral, straight and zig zag welding groove parameters, overall shows the results where the greatest toughness value is produced in specimens with variations in welding parameters of 100 ampere current strength and zig zag welding grooves with an average impact value of 1,081 Joules/mm2 and the energy absorbed is 70,053 Joules. From these results it can be concluded that there was a reject at 60 Ampere and the use of spiral and straight grooves. In the Impact Carpry test, it has the highest toughness value at variations in current strength of 100 amperes and zig-zag welding grooves.
