Abstract

This study aimed to find how the Mind Mapping technique can develop students’ writing ability of descriptive text in the seventh grade of VII-D class of SMPN 7 Bojonegoro in the academic year 2022/2023. The Subject of this study was 30 students’ VII-D class. The researcher used the Mixed Method Research between quantitative and qualitative. The study was conducted in two meetings pre-test and post-test. The data was gathered in this study through tests, interview
guidelines, and questionnaire sheets. The result of the study showed that there was an improvement in the student’s skill in writing descriptive text through the Mind Mapping technique. Most of the students gradually gained good scores in the second meeting. The score of the Minimum Master Criterion- Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of the English lesson was 75. The students’ mean score in the preliminary study was 62.2. The mean score in the first meeting through interviews, questionnaires and tests were 76.1. The mean score in the second meeting was 81.27. Besides, it showed that there were 63.33% of students passed the KKM in the first meeting, and 93.33% of students achieved the KKM in the second meeting. It meant that this study had reached the criteria of success; 75% of students could pass the KKM. Moreover, the class condition during the teaching-learning process was also better in every meeting. Besides, there was a positive response from the English teacher and the students about implementing the action. Thus, it could be concluded that the Mind Mapping technique improves students’ skills in writing descriptive text in the seventh grade of VII-D class of SMPN 7 Bojonegoro in the academic year 2022/2023.
