Abstract

Based on the Indonesian education system, English is one of the subjects that must be taught in every institution and teaching English in Indonesia is not easy, it will be more difficult than other subjects because there are many students who lack experience with English so it will be difficult for students to understand. This problem will be a job for teachers how to make students excited to learn English. In addition, there are many ways teachers can apply it in class to increase motivation to learn English. Before the researchers conducted the research, the researchers conducted pre-observations at Al Kyai Vocational School. At that time the researcher saw the state of the students in class when the teacher was teaching. The students being taught looked bored and unenthusiastic. After the researchers read the journals and articles, the researchers found that the repetition drill method could improve English vocabulary skills and increase concentration to remember English words. Based on the results of previous journals and research, the researcher wants to analyze the repetition method and collaborate with the teacher to apply repetition drill so that learning does not look bored by giving some motivation to learn to students when applying the method. This study aims to analyze repetition exercises in teaching English and the application of repetition exercises by the teacher as a method of learning English besides wanting to know the motivation that teachers give to students when using repetition training methods in teaching English. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted in collaboration with an eleventh grade English teacher at SMK Al Kyai Bojonegoro. The collection of data used is observation and interviews. The participants of this study were English teachers and eleventh grade students of SMK Al Kyai Bojonegoro. The results showed that the teacher's evaluation of repetition drills in English learning activities included vocabulary exercises, pronunciation exercises, sentence structure exercises, and dialogue exercises. The motivation given by the teacher to students when using repetition exercises has both positive and negative effects. besides that by providing motivation to students when using repetition exercises in class it can also increase student learning concentration.
