Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the class of phytochemical compounds contained in the ethanol extract of basil (Ocium basilicium L) and citronella (Cymbopogon ciratus) and to determine the results of screening and phytochemical classification tests using TLC chromatography method on basil (Ocium basilicium L) ethanol extract. and kitchen lemon grass (Cymbopogon ciratus). The method used in this study is a laboratory experiment. With the type of RAL (study completely randomized design) Ocimum basilicum L and Cymbopogon ciratus were extracted by maceration method with 96% ethanol ethanol solvent. Furthermore, the phytochemical screening test included flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins and steroids and the TLC test included the number of stains, stain color and Rf value on the TLC plate. The results of the phytochemical screening test on the ethanol extract of basil leaves showed positive results for flavonoids, tannin, alkaloids and steroids while the ethanol extract of citronella rhizome showed positive flavonoid, alkaloids and steroids. The results of the TLC method of ethanol extract of basil (Ocimum basilicum L) are the types of bound flavonoid compounds, namely flavonones without free 5-OH and having or not having free 5-OH, and nicotine-type alkaloids, and types of tannins. Condensed and has a steroid content of 1,246%. Meanwhile, the ethanol extract of citronella (Cymbopogon ciratus) contains bound flavonoids, namely flavonones without free 5-OH and flavonenes with free 3-OH and whether or not they have free 5-OH and nicotine type alkaloids, and with a steroid content of 1,024%
