Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the students' ability before and after using comic strips and to find out whether or not using comic strips is effective to improve students' ability on writing narrative text at the eighth grade students of MTs Hidayatul Islamiyah Bumirejo. The data collected quantitatively used pre-test and post-test were firstly tabulated and then analyzed using SPSS 23 for Windows. The sample of the research was the eighth grade students of MTs Hidayatul Islamiyah Bumirejo. The total sample was 24 students. The researcher saturated sampling technique in this research. It means that the sample in that class was all taken. The result of the data indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, which means there was significant difference between the student’s pre-test scores and post-test scores. The mean score of the pre-test was 48.54 and the mean score of post-test was 78.92. The significance (2-tailed) value is lower than 0.05 or 0.000 < 0.05, which implied that the null hypothesis was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis was accepted. From the effect size statistical by eta squared,the researcher found that the value of eta squared is (0.89). The obtained value of eta squared shows very large effect size. Based on the findings and discussion of the research,the researcher concluded that Comic strip has a highly significant effect on improving the students' ability on writing narrative text of MTs Hidayatul Islamiyah Bumirejo.
